FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The first time entering any gym can be a very intimidating experience. Here is a list of things to do and things not to do and what to bring.
Wear clean, comfortable athletic attire: T-shirt, shorts, etc. Certain classes may require an gi or kimono. When off the mats, we recommend that our members use sandals or flip-flops. Also, it is always a good idea to bathe and wear deodorant as part of good personal hygiene.
We are happy to loan our trial members equipment as is necessary. For example, if you are trying out a class that requires a gi, (for BJJ, Judo, etc) then we kindly ask you to wash and hang-dry your gi before returning it.
All members should own their own equipment within 10 days of signup. PPMAC has training equipment for sale at the front desk as well.
It is recommended that students eat an hour or more before class. Energy-providing, complex carbohydrates usually are a good choice.
Classes are usually 60 minutes in length.
Yes. Our classes are intentionally designed to accommodate students of all fitness levels. All group classes give students a chance to find a partner and practice at their own pace.
Perfectly okay. Our instructors will substitute it with a more appropriate exercise for the time being.
PPMAC classes are generally high-intensity, hour-long classes. While water pauses longer than 30 seconds are uncommon, all students are encouraged to take breaks as needed. Again, even though we train hard, this is not a military boot camp.
With the Academy Membership, you can take as many as you would like: unlimited day or evening classes are included.
Three times a week as a minimum, is recommended. However, it depends mostly on your schedule: some students take 3 classes per day, others take 3 classes per week.
This depends on your commitment level and training effort. We have had students who, with consistent training and a proper diet, lose between 1-2 pounds per week.
PPMAC offers ten different training programs, all of which tone and condition different muscle groups.
Absolutely not. We invite our members to come train for the purposes of fitness, self-defense, camaraderie and fun. For those who are interested in competition training, we have specific classes for you as well. Whatever your goal, we have a class for you.
