Jake Tran began training in self-defense and martial arts in the summer of 2008. Prior to discovering the many benefits of self-defense and martial arts training, Jake was no stranger to physical fitness and competition athletics, serving as four year captain, starting catcher and third base for his school baseball team. He is a 4.0 GPA honor student and as a freshman/sophomore he was the starting tight end for his high school football team.
His hard work, dedication, and natural talent have earned him the opportunity to train with the Washington, D.C. area’s top self-defense and martial arts instructors. Jake has trained privately for two years in Muay Thai Kickboxing, MMA, and Krav Maga with Otis Berry. He has also trained under the tutelage of Robert Crawford, one of the premier Baltimore/Washington area boxing trainers whose students consist of William Joppy, Super Middleweight Champion of the World 38-4-1; Emil Baku, who boasts a 23-2 record for professional fights; Rufat Baku, with a 14-2 record for professional fights; and Dwayne McRae, current Golden Gloves Super Heavyweight Champ. While training, Jake has logged over one hundred hours of sparring, including amateur and professional fighters of various weight classes. He currently trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Black Belt, Pedro Sauer, in Muay Thai under Black Belt, Dennis Barongan, and in Krav Maga under Brown Belt, Brad Burnette.
In addition to self-defense and martial arts training, Jake recognizes and embraces the benefits of body conditioning and weight lifting. He has been a student of CrossFit for over a year and is also experienced in Olympic weight lifting. He is currently a Krav Maga, Muay Thai, and Kids Krav Maga instructor for PPMAC in Rockville Maryland.
